Taking action on the climate emergency

Hope Valley Climate Action seeks to provide a local response to the global climate crisis we all face.

Hope Valley are ready to meet the growing interest in community car sharing and lift sharing. Hope Valley Climate Action already has a 'Developing Local Car Shares' work package, which includes promoting P2P car sharing, where car owners rent out their vehicles whilst they would otherwise be parked.

Travelling light

Travelling Light is a national beacon project to co-create and pilot sustainable and inclusive solutions that decarbonise rural travel in the Peak District National Park's Hope Valley. It is a project of Hope Valley Climate Action (HVCA), in partnership with Derbyshire County Council and the Peak District National Park Authority, currently funded by the Department for Transport.

Travelling Light are working on 4 key areas:

  1. Inclusive active travel

  2. Integrated public transport

  3. Reduced fossil fuel dependency

  4. Innovation and spreading change

The project aims to contribute towards the target of a 33% fall in carbon emission from transport by 2030, as set out in the UK government's Net Zero Strategy, Oct 2021. Benchmark target outcomes by 2030 have been established in line with government targets and the outcomes of equivalent measures introduced elsewhere. These quantify the aspirations for the project, though HVCA recognises the inherent limitations of target setting.

One of their key objectives is to reduce fossil fuel dependency by promoting attractive alternatives to private vehicle use including greater access to and understanding of car sharing and electric car clubs and access to better car charging infrastructure.
